Northwich has seen significant investment in recent years and is now recognised as a desirable place to live, work and visit.
Northwich Town Council provides a wide range of services for residents and visitors, including the maintenance of cemeteries, parks, play areas, open spaces and a paddling pool. The Council also undertakes contract work for other town and parish councils.
We are currently seeking a Town Ranger to join our team. This is a full-time role requiring flexible working to meet the needs of the Council. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a small team to deliver high-quality maintenance and environmental services across the town centre, parks, cemeteries and open spaces. Some evening and weekend work may be required during busy periods.
Main Purpose of the Role
To carry out the general day-to-day maintenance and cleansing of Northwich Town Centre and surrounding council-managed areas.
Key Duties
- Grass cutting using a variety of equipment
- Strimming, hedge cutting and general grounds maintenance
- Weeding, cultivation and maintenance of flower beds
- Watering and planting of plants and shrubs
- Litter picking and site cleansing
- Carrying out minor repairs
- Applying pesticides and chemicals where required
- Conducting visual inspections of sites
- Completing job sheets and daily timesheets
Responsibilities
- Organising day-to-day tasks and workloads
- Completing worksheets and inspection reports
- Maintaining accurate records
- Opening and locking council premises
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Sound basic education with good numeracy and literacy
- Clean UK driving licence
Experience
- Experience of garden maintenance and plant care
- Awareness of Health and Safety legislation relevant to the role
Knowledge & Skills
- Good horticultural knowledge
- Ability to organise and supervise a small team
- Ability to work to a high standard
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of grounds equipment
- Ability to maintain records and complete paperwork
